Alexander Zverev Frustrated Over Recent Form Following Miami Open Exit
Alexander Zverev has openly criticized his own performances, expressing frustration over his inability to close out matches. The German world No. 2 suffered another disappointing defeat at the Miami Open, falling in the last-16 to Arthur Fils despite holding a break lead in the deciding set.
Zverev admitted that this loss was part of a troubling pattern, having squandered winning positions in previous tournaments. In Indian Wells, he served for the match before losing to Tallon Griekspoor, while at the Rio Open, he let a 4-1 lead slip in the third set against Francisco Comesana.
Zverev: “I Need to Change That”
Reflecting on his struggles, Zverev said:
“I have been losing a lot of matches where I feel like I am in control lately. It was that again, so I have to look at myself more than anything else.
I definitely played better here than the last two weeks. But I was up a break in the third, and there is no reason for me to lose that match. Yet, I lost four games in a row.”
Missed Opportunity for a Djokovic Clash
Had Zverev advanced, he might have had a chance to face Novak Djokovic in the later rounds. The Serb, competing for his 100th career title, took on teenage sensation Jakub Mensik in the final.
Zverev, a three-time Grand Slam finalist, remains determined to secure his first major title. Despite strong performances in the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open, he has yet to break through on the biggest stage. His best Wimbledon result remains a fourth-round finish.
With the clay-court season approaching, Zverev is eager to regain his winning edge and eliminate the mistakes that have plagued his recent matches.
