Former world No. 4, Greg Rusedski, has made a bold prediction regarding Alexander Zverev’s Grand Slam prospects, stating that the German star will not win the 2025 Australian Open or any future Grand Slam title. Rusedski shared his views during an analysis of Zverev’s form and long-term chances of securing one of tennis’ biggest trophies.

Zverev, currently ranked in the top 10, has been one of the most consistent players on the ATP Tour, but Rusedski believes that despite his talent, the German lacks the ability to perform at the highest level during Grand Slam events. The former British No. 1 cited Zverev’s mental fragility in high-stakes matches and his history of faltering in key moments as reasons behind his prediction.

“Zverev is an exceptional player with incredible physicality, but when it comes to the pressure moments in Grand Slams, he seems to struggle,” Rusedski said. “We’ve seen it time and time again where he reaches the later stages but is unable to close the deal. I just don’t see him winning a Grand Slam, not at the Australian Open or anywhere else.”

Zverev has come close to major success, most notably reaching the final of the 2020 US Open, where he lost a heartbreaking five-setter to Dominic Thiem after being two sets up. While he has won ATP Tour titles and consistently made deep runs in tournaments, the Grand Slam trophy has eluded him.

Rusedski’s comments have sparked a debate within the tennis community, with some agreeing that Zverev’s mental game may be a barrier to his success at the highest level, while others believe he still has the potential to break through.

As Zverev continues his quest for a Grand Slam title, he will look to prove doubters like Rusedski wrong. Whether or not he can overcome these challenges and finally lift a major trophy remains to be seen, but he will face significant pressure as the Australian Open progresses.
