Sinner’s Suspension and Imminent Comeback

Sinner, the current world No. 1, is serving a suspension after testing positive for the anabolic steroid clostebol twice in March 2024. His ban, which began on February 9, will conclude on May 4, allowing him to make his return at the Italian Open—his home Masters 1000 event, which starts on May 7.

Despite his time away from the sport, Sinner has competed in just one tournament this year—the 2025 Australian Open—where he successfully defended his title by defeating Zverev in straight sets, securing his third Grand Slam victory.

Zverev’s Struggles Following Australian Open Defeat

Since his loss to Sinner in Melbourne, Zverev has faced a challenging stretch, losing six of his 11 matches across tournaments in Buenos Aires, Rio, Acapulco, Indian Wells, and Miami.

Most recently, the world No. 2 suffered a three-set defeat to Arthur Fils in the fourth round of the Miami Open, missing an opportunity to close the gap on Sinner in the ATP Rankings. As it stands, Zverev trails the suspended Sinner by 2,685 points in the live rankings.

Roddick’s Take on Zverev’s Situation

Roddick expressed understanding for Zverev’s struggles, acknowledging the immense pressure the 27-year-old faces as he continues his pursuit of an elusive maiden Grand Slam title.

With Sinner’s return on the horizon and Zverev searching for consistency, the upcoming clay-court season promises to be an intriguing chapter in the ATP Tour.
