Andy Roddick Dismisses Criticism of Novak Djokovic’s Miami Open Run
Tennis legend Andy Roddick has shut down claims that Novak Djokovic’s Miami Open campaign was a “disappointment,” emphasizing that the 37-year-old still has the game to win Grand Slams.
Roddick Defends Djokovic’s Performance
Speaking on his podcast, Served with Andy Roddick, the former US Open champion dismissed the negativity surrounding Djokovic’s Miami Open final loss to Jakub Mensik. Despite reaching the final without dropping a set, some critics labeled his tight 6-7(4), 6-7(4) defeat as another “letdown.”
Roddick was quick to push back:
“Djokovic was doing crazy things. If they played the Miami final again, I’d bet on him.”
He also reminded fans that Djokovic won the Paris Olympics gold medal just months ago, proving he is still a force on the biggest stages.
Djokovic Still a Grand Slam Contender
Roddick believes Djokovic remains a top-three contender at every Slam, particularly Wimbledon and Roland Garros.
“Is his level good enough to win a Major? Yes. Will it happen? I don’t know. But are you putting him outside the top three favorites? No. It’s Sinner, Alcaraz, and Djokovic.”
He also suggested that Andy Murray’s presence on tour may be fueling Djokovic’s motivation.
Next Stop: Roland Garros
Djokovic will next aim to become the first player in history to win 25 Grand Slam titles at the French Open. Last year, he reached the quarterfinals before undergoing knee surgery.
Despite the skeptics, Roddick is convinced: Djokovic isn’t done yet. 🎾🔥
