No 17 seed Anna Kalinskaya defeated No 15 seed Liudmila Samsonova 7-6 (4), 6-2 to advance to the last 16 of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Londres on Saturday afternoon.

Kalinskaya, ranked No 18, will play the winner of the match between Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 4 seed, and Dane wildcard Caroline Wozniacki next.

It has been a fantastic season for the 25-year-old. She reached her maiden major quarter-final at this year’s Australian Open, and reached finals in Dubai and, more recently, on the Berlin grass.

She’s up to No 18 in the world, from a year-end 2023 ranking of 77. She entered this year’s Championships with an 0-2 lifetime record at SW19.

Anna Kalinskaya won against Hungarian qualifier Panna Udvardy (6-3, 6-2) and Marie Bouzkova (6-4, 6-1) ahead of her victory.

In the previous rounds of The Championships, Samsonova, ranked No 15, won against Spaniard Rebeka Masarova (6-3, 4-6, 6-2) and Elina Avanesyan (6-3, 6-3).
