Aryna Sabalenka Reacts to Iga Swiatek’s Surprise Coaching Suggestion
Aryna Sabalenka admits she’s “not sure” if she’d make a good coach for Iga Swiatek, though she believes her experience could be valuable in the mental aspect of the game.
In case you missed it, Swiatek recently made waves by naming Sabalenka as a potential future coach, should the Belarusian ever take on such a role. The five-time Grand Slam champion’s revelation came in response to a lighthearted WTA discussion inspired by Novak Djokovic’s decision to hire Andy Murray in the offseason.
When asked who she would hypothetically consider as a coach one day, Swiatek’s answer stood out.
“Petkovic is not playing anymore, but I heard she has a really great eye, and I always liked her. I think we would get along,” the 23-year-old said. “I don’t know… Maybe Aryna. She is older than me, so she is going to finish earlier, and that would be funny.”
Sabalenka’s Response: “Not Sure About That”
During a recent Instagram Q&A session, Sabalenka was asked about Swiatek’s comments.
“Iga said that you would be a good tennis coach, what do you think about it?” a fan inquired.
Sabalenka, 26, responded with a mix of humility and humor.
“I’m not sure about that. Probably because of my crazy experience, I could help with the mental part of the game… But once again… I’m not sure about that,” she replied.
Could Sabalenka Retire by 30?
During the Australian Open, Sabalenka jokingly mentioned in a tournament video that she was “getting older and closer to retiring.” She even hinted that she might step away from tennis by the time she turns 30.
If that prediction comes true, Swiatek’s comments might resurface as a potential coaching narrative for the future. After all, it only took Andy Murray three months post-retirement to accept Djokovic’s coaching offer—could a Sabalenka-Swiatek partnership be on the horizon one day?
