Sabalenka, the reigning Madrid champion, narrowly missed out on the title at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, where she was defeated by Jelena Ostapenko in the final. Despite the disappointment, Sabalenka showed grace and humor in her post-match comments.
“I want to congratulate Jelena and her team on a great week. You played really great and were the better player today. Well done, and enjoy driving that beautiful car! I’m glad I can afford this car too—after this final, we’re going to order one. I guess that’s the only way for me to get it now,” Sabalenka joked, referring to the tournament’s coveted Porsche prize.
