Five Australians are set to compete in the Monte Carlo Masters this week as the ATP launches its first Masters 1000 event of the clay season. Meanwhile, the Australian women’s team will aim for a spot in the Billie Jean King Cup finals in Brisbane.

Alex de Minaur will be playing in his first ATP doubles tournament since Queen’s last June. The World No. 10 is looking to add to his sole doubles title from the 2020 Cincinnati Masters, partnering with top-50 singles player Jan-Lennard Struff. In singles, de Minaur aims to become the first Australian to win in Monte Carlo since Martin Mulligan in 1964. Entering the tournament as the eighth seed, de Minaur will be Australia’s highest-ranked player at the event.

Alexei Popyrin and Jordan Thompson will also feature in both singles and doubles. Popyrin returns to doubles after his Dubai triumph last month, pairing with Yuki Bhambri. Thompson, who has enjoyed an impressive doubles season, reached the Indian Wells final alongside Sebastian Korda, though their Miami campaign was cut short by a wrist injury to Korda.

The duo of Matt Ebden and John Peers are among Australia’s best doubles contenders, having excelled on clay in 2024, including a gold medal at the Paris Olympics. Ebden will be seeking his third Masters 1000 doubles title at the tournament where he reclaimed the World No. 1 ranking last year.

The last Australian to win in Monte Carlo was Todd Woodbridge, who captured back-to-back titles with Jonas Bjorkman in 2001 and 2002.
