Jessica Pegula secured her first grass-court victory of 2025, dominating Katerina Siniakova 6-2, 6-3 in the Bad Homburg round of 16.
As the top seed with a first-round bye, Pegula trailed 1-2 early but shifted gears, winning five straight games to claim the first set. She broke early in the second set for a 3-1 lead, but Siniakova fought back, leveling at 3-3 after earning her first break points. Pegula stayed composed, breaking Siniakova in the seventh and ninth games to seal the match in straight sets. Siniakova took a medical timeout at the start of the second set.
Pegula’s next opponent will be either wildcard Naomi Osaka or No. 5 seed Emma Navarro, with a semifinal spot at stake. As world No. 3, Pegula is favored, but she anticipates a tough challenge.
Before Bad Homburg, Pegula began her grass season in Berlin, falling in a close three-setter to Liudmila Samsonova. Her strong start in Germany sets the stage for a potentially big week.
