The doubles partners faced each other in the first-round of the Canadian Open in Montreal, in a match which ended in very entertaining fashion.
Shelton took the first set from Bublik 7-6, and then surged ahead to lead him 5-2 in the second set in Montreal.
And the American then put himself into a strong position to win the match, earning three match points over the Kazakhstani.
Shelton aimed to close out the match with a backhand drop shot that left his opponent scrambling towards the net, desperate to make the return.
While Bublik did not quite make up the distance, his racquet did!
In a last-ditch attempt to save the match, he threw his racquet underneath the ball – and it ended up performing an excellent return shot.
While the shot did not count given that the racquet was no longer in Bublik’s hand, many were left hugely impressed by the stunt.
And nobody looked more delighted with the hilarious shot than his opponent who, despite having just won the match, clearly appreciated the excellence of what he had just seen.
And fans took to X to express just how much they too had enjoyed the unusual point.
