Tennis legend Boris Becker was visibly concerned after seeing Nick Kyrgios struggle with wrist pain during practice ahead of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. The Australian was forced to cut short his training session with Japan’s Sho Shimabukuro due to ongoing discomfort in his wrist—an issue that has troubled him since 2023.

Kyrgios has endured a tough return to the tour in 2025, suffering early exits in both Brisbane and the Australian Open. His form has been inconsistent, and injuries continue to pose a major challenge.

A video posted by Olly Tennis on X (formerly Twitter) showed Kyrgios visibly in pain, struggling with his wrist. Becker reshared the clip and expressed concern, writing, “Doesn’t look so good …”

The former world No. 13 recently hinted that his singles career may be nearing its end following his Australian Open loss to Jacob Fearnley. Speaking after the match, Kyrgios admitted that this year could be his final season on tour.

“Realistically, I can’t see myself playing a singles match here again,” he said via Australian Open TV.

Despite his physical struggles, the Aussie remains hopeful for the rest of the season.

“When you’re competing at the biggest tournaments and struggling to win sets physically, it’s tough. But I’ve got a long year ahead, and I’m trusting the process. Hopefully, I can still do some cool things this year,” Kyrgios added.

Kyrgios Set for First-Round Clash Against Van de Zandschulp

Despite his injury concerns, Kyrgios is set to face Botic van de Zandschulp in the first round of Indian Wells on March 7. The Dutch player entered the tournament as a lucky loser after Facundo Diaz Acosta withdrew due to injury.

Van de Zandschulp, known for his solid baseline game, is expected to provide a tough challenge for Kyrgios in their first-ever meeting. The winner of this matchup will advance to face world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the second round.

Kyrgios Plays Pickleball for Charity

Ahead of Indian Wells, Kyrgios took part in the Desert Smash charity event for UNICEF, where he played pickleball alongside other celebrities and athletes. Despite his injury concerns, the Aussie remains active in the tennis community both on and off the court.
