Boris Becker sends big warning to Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz after Jack Draper wins the Indian Wells final
Jack Draper Clinches Biggest Career Title at Indian Wells with Victory Over Holger Rune
Jack Draper has secured the most significant title of his career to date, triumphing at Indian Wells with a commanding win over Holger Rune in the final. The Brit dominated the match, sealing a 6-2, 6-2 victory to claim his maiden ATP Masters 1000 crown.
Draper and Rune both made history by reaching their first Indian Wells final, but it was Draper who rose to the occasion, capping off an impressive tournament run. His victory came on the heels of a stunning semi-final performance, where he defeated defending champion Carlos Alcaraz to book his spot in the championship match.
Boris Becker Warns Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz After Draper’s Triumph
Tennis legend Boris Becker, a two-time Indian Wells champion, was quick to praise Draper’s performance and his demeanor both on and off the court. The six-time Grand Slam winner took to social media to commend the Brit’s talent and issue a warning to the ATP’s top players—Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Carlos Alcaraz—urging them to take notice of Draper’s rise.
“I like @jackdraper0. So well spoken, educated, humble, and a beast on the tennis court! I want more from him for the rest of the year. Be aware @janniksin @AlexZverev @carlosalcaraz!” Becker wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Of those named, Alcaraz has already felt the impact of Draper’s rise, having lost two of their last three encounters over the past year.
Becker Questions Holger Rune’s Performance in the Final
While celebrating Draper’s victory, Becker also expressed disappointment in Rune’s performance. The Danish star, who struggled throughout the final, committed 20 unforced errors and was unable to match Draper’s level.
Becker, who briefly coached Rune for five months before parting ways in February 2024, took to social media to question his former protégé’s lackluster display.
“Huge congratulations to @jackdraper0 for winning @BNPPARIBASOPEN! Great Britain should be proud!!! @holgerrune2003 didn’t show up today… Why? Only he knows! Anyway, good luck to both players for the rest of the season!”
Draper Breaks into the ATP Top 10
With his landmark victory, Draper is now set to rise to a career-high ranking of world No. 7, cementing his place among the game’s elite. His remarkable run at Indian Wells has signaled his arrival as a serious contender on the ATP Tour, and with momentum on his side, the Brit will be one to watch for the remainder of the season.
