Boris Becker Warns ATP Stars After Jack Draper’s Indian Wells Triumph
Tennis legend Boris Becker has sent a strong message to Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and the rest of the ATP Tour following Jack Draper’s breakthrough title win at Indian Wells.
Draper delivered a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory over Holger Rune in the final, securing his first Masters 1000 title and the biggest triumph of his career. The 23-year-old Brit dominated the match, breaking Rune twice in each set while not facing a single break point himself.
His stunning run in California saw him defeat top names like Alcaraz, Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz, Jenson Brooksby, and Joao Fonseca, dropping only one set throughout the tournament—against Alcaraz in the semi-finals.
Draper’s Rise in the Rankings
With his third career title, Draper has broken into the ATP Top 10 for the first time, reaching a career-high world No. 7. His stellar 13-2 record in 2025 has placed him third in the Race to the ATP Finals in Turin, making him one of the standout performers of the season so far.
Becker’s Message to the ATP Elite
Becker, a six-time Grand Slam champion, took to social media to praise Draper and issue a warning to other top players.
“I like @jackdraper0. So well-spoken, educated, humble—and a beast on the tennis court!” Becker wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“I want more from him for the rest of the year… Be aware @janniksin @AlexZverev @carlosalcaraz! @atptour.”
Becker also congratulated Draper on his title but didn’t hold back in criticizing Rune, who he briefly coached in late 2023.
“Huge congratulations to @jackdraper0 for winning @BNPPARIBASOPEN! Great Britain should be proud!!!
“@holgerrune2003 didn’t show up today… Why? Only he knows! Anyway, good luck to both players for the rest of the season.”
Rune Responds After Final Defeat
Following the loss, Rune reflected on his performance in a social media post, acknowledging his progress while setting his sights on bigger goals.
“Not the final I dreamt about. But happy to be on the right track. Draper was on it this week and deserved the title here,” he said.
“I went one step closer after seven semi-finals last year—nice to be in a final again, but now I’m hungry for the real trophies. One more step next time. Thanks for the amazing support at this fantastic tournament.”
With his impressive start to 2025, Draper has firmly established himself as a serious contender on the ATP Tour—one that the sport’s biggest stars can no longer afford to overlook.
