Denis Shapovalov has his sights set on returning to the elite of the ATP circuit. The road is long and arduous, but the Canadian is already showing signs of his potential this week at the ATP Belgrade 2024, where he has already reached the semifinals. In the Serbian capital, we sensed a familiar presence in his coaching staff, a presence that has now been confirmed as his new coach: none other than Janko Tipsarevic, former #8 in the world and 2010 Davis Cup champion, who will accompany the Canadian in his upcoming matches.

“I did a trial week with Janko in Basel. We will start working together in Dubai, during the preseason, and we will see how things go. Janko was an incredible tennis player, I respect him a lot. When I was a child, I remember watching him on TV in a match against Novak in Canada, back in 2012. It was a special match and a very nice memory for me. He is a very intelligent guy, and I am excited about this partnership. He has already shared some interesting things with me, although it’s still early days,” Denis noted in a conversation with SportKlub, expressing his enthusiasm for having a new captain at the helm of his ship once again.
