Cameron Menzies has issued a fresh statement ahead of Charlie Manby’s second-round appearance at the PDC World Darts Championship, as he continues to address the fallout from his explosive on-stage reaction.
Menzies was eliminated from the tournament last week after suffering a dramatic 3–2 defeat to Manby at Alexandra Palace. Moments after the winning dart, the Scot lashed out at the water table in frustration, injuring his right hand and leaving it bloodied in a shocking scene.
In the immediate aftermath, Menzies released a lengthy apology, admitting his reaction was wrong and explaining the emotional strain he had been under. He revealed that his uncle Gary had recently passed away, describing him as a father figure and admitting the timing of the match — which would have clashed with the funeral had he progressed — weighed heavily on him. Despite the explanation, Menzies stressed there was no excuse for his behaviour and insisted it should not detract from Manby’s victory.
The incident remained in the spotlight earlier this week when Menzies’ former partner and fellow darts star Fallon Sherrock appeared to mock the moment by jokingly shaking the water table during her match against Dave Chisnall.
On Monday evening, ahead of Manby’s second-round clash with American Adam Sevada, Menzies returned to social media with a new message.
“Hi all. Wishing Charlie Manby all the best tonight in his match against Adam Sevada,” he wrote.
“I have spoken to Charlie personally and apologised to him for my actions. He understood that I was caught up in my own moment of frustration and that it was nothing personal towards him, or his win. It was very important to speak to him about that, and I am grateful he never once thought I was directing anything at him.”
Menzies also thanked supporters who had reached out since the incident, adding: “A huge thank you to everyone who has sent messages of support — it really means a lot. My hand is on the mend. Sorry again for last week, and I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas and New Year.”
