Carlos Alcaraz has jokingly admitted to being a little “jealous” of Jannik Sinner’s current break from the tour, revealing that he too craves time away from the sport.

Sinner, the world No. 1, is currently serving a three-month suspension following a doping case resolution in February. Though ineligible to compete until the Rome Masters begins on May 7, the Italian has stayed lightly active, continuing to train but without the full intensity of tour-level preparation.

When asked in Monte Carlo if he envied Sinner’s downtime, Alcaraz responded candidly.

“I’d really love to have a month of doing absolutely nothing,” the world No. 3 said.
“We compete for 11 months straight, and the most time off we usually get is maybe three days, a week if we’re lucky. That’s not enough for the kind of physical and mental strain we go through. Rest is crucial—for the players, for the sport, and even for the fans, so we can return refreshed and play better.”

Alcaraz has been vocal about the intensity of the tennis calendar in the past, often criticizing the lack of recovery time for top players. This week, he’s competing in his sixth event of the season at the Monte Carlo Masters, where he began his clay campaign with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 win over Francisco Cerundolo.

The 21-year-old now faces Daniel Altmaier in the round of 16. It’s only his second-ever appearance in Monte Carlo, having missed the last two editions due to injury.
