Carlos Alcaraz Opens Up on Injury Setback, Confirms Withdrawal from Madrid Open
Carlos Alcaraz has officially withdrawn from the 2024 Madrid Open due to a second, unexpected injury, breaking his silence after speculation surrounding his fitness.
The Spanish star, who recently competed in the final of the Barcelona Open, revealed he’s been struggling with multiple injuries that have forced him to pause his clay court season.
“During the Barcelona final, I hurt the adductor muscle in my right leg, but I also started feeling something in the hamstring of my left leg,” Alcaraz explained.
Despite his team’s best efforts to facilitate recovery, the 20-year-old admitted that returning to the court this soon would pose too great a risk.
“We’ve tried everything to improve, but it hasn’t been possible. We discussed whether I could play safely, but we have to listen to our bodies,” he said.
Looking ahead, Alcaraz remains optimistic.
“Next Monday, I’ll undergo more tests to assess how the injury is progressing. From there, we’ll determine what the next few weeks will look like,” he shared.
“I think I’ll be back to training in a week or two,” he added.
While Madrid is off the table, Alcaraz reassured fans that his sights are set firmly on Roland Garros.
“We’ll definitely be at Roland Garros, and we’ll try to be in Rome as well,” he confirmed.
The absence of one of Spain’s brightest young talents will certainly be felt at the Madrid Open, but Alcaraz’s focus remains on ensuring a full recovery ahead of the Grand Slam season.
