She needed just over one hour to knock out 13th seed Kostyuk, having recently returned to world number four.

And as per the WTA website, the latest success marks her 70th career match-win at WTA 1000 tournaments, with Gauff becoming the youngest player to reach that figure since the WTA 1000 tier began in 2009.

Can China Open champion Coco Gauff win back-to-back WTA 1000 titles?

Gauff has perhaps surprised many with her recent form, having only just parted ways with coach Brad Gilbert.

Matt Daly has since stepped in, with the pair clearly forming a strong relationship early on given the success on the court.

Gauff will have been thrilled with her China Open title, but she is now aiming to become the second player to win in Beijing and Wuhan in the same season.

That is very much on the cards for the American, who would be following in the footsteps of Caroline Garcia, who achieved the feat in 2017.

But Polish ace Linette will have other ideas, having just beaten eighth seed Daria Kasatkina to make the Wuhan Open quarter-finals.
