Coco Gauff Fulfils Duty as an American Citizen With a Heartfelt Plea to Fans Ahead of the US Open
The 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff is not just a tennis player but a true American from the core of her heart. As she gears up for the season’s last Grand Slam, Gauff leaves a special request for her fans: to vote responsibly. Channeling her inner American citizen, Gauff’s plea shows why she deserves to be called a true youth icon of this generation.
Gauff took her Instagram profile to enlighten her followers about the US election and their rights to vote as a responsible citizen. Sharing a selfie, Gauff wrote, “Hey Florida! don’t forget to vote Aug 2oth (I did early voting as I will be out of town) if I can make it happen with a busy tennis schedule so can you :)” Now, if you are a true Coco Gauff fan then you must know that she has been a responsible voice from Florida along with being one of the highest paid female athletes in the world. Gauff, who is voting for the first time in this US presidential election, had also participated in the Black Lives Matter rally at 16.
Before Gauff attended the 2024 French Open, she addressed her home state’s current political conditions in an interview with The Associated Press. “A crazy time to be a Floridian, especially a Black one at that,” said the US Open champion. She also said, “We aren’t happy with the current state of our government in Florida, especially everything with the books and just the way our office operates.” Gauff’s statement referred to the bill signed by Ron DeSantis, a Republican Government Representative that controversially banned LGBTQ and race-related books from state schools.
This US Open champion has always taken a stand against racial injustice and police brutality since her speech in 2020 in front of Delray Beach’s City Hall. She explained how she believed that her generation doesn’t rely on their votes when people should use their voices and the power they have to ensure a properly functioning society.
Gauff might be ensuring her rights as a true American citizen, but she hasn’t lost her focus from the upcoming US Open. After suffering from a setback in Cincinnati, this American WTA star is trying to reset her mind and prepare for the Grand Slam in full swing.
Coco Gauff is “just trying to reset and be ready” for the 2024 US Open
A defending champion of the Grand Slam, Gauff is eyeing the US Open trophy after losing against Yulia Putintseva in the Round of 32 in Cincinnati. After exiting the WTA 1000, Gauff said, “I’ll probably go home and try to reset.” In her match against Putintseva, Gauff made 50 errors with nine double faults. This truly disappointed her mind before the season’s last Grand Slam.”Obviously, I have a lot coming up soon with the U.S. Open, so I think just trying to reset and be ready for that. I made a lot of errors, especially when I was up 4-2 (in the third set). I think most of the points she won were off my errors,” she said.
Coco Gauff had many ups and downs in her career this season. Despite not making it to any Grand Slam singles finals, this WTA star flourished in doubles with her debut doubles Grand Slam trophy in the 2024 French Open. While her Cincinnati run made her followers anxious, Gauff is prepping hard to return to the 2024 US Open with her full glory. Do you think she can make it this time too?
