Coco Gauff has battled her way into the fourth round of the US Open, not without some challenges

The third round of the US Open women’s tournament is underway. On Friday, August 30, world No. 3 Coco Gauff faced Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina.

The American was considered the clear favorite for the match. However, the first set went to the Ukrainian. Svitolina started stronger, opening the scoring and taking a 1-0 lead. Coco Gauff quickly responded and leveled the match by winning the second set 6-3.

The match’s fate was decided in the third set. Gauff began it more assertively, taking a 5-1 lead. Svitolina managed to win two more games, but a comeback was not to be. The American closed out the match with a 6-3 victory.

As a result, Coco Gauff defeated Svitolina 2-1 in a match that lasted just over two hours. In the next round, the American will face the winner of the Navarro/Kostyuk match.
