Third seed Coco Gauff secured her spot in the fourth round of the 2025 Australian Open with a commanding straight-sets victory over Leylah Fernandez on Friday, January 17. The American tennis sensation needed little time to dispatch the Canadian, winning 6-4, 6-2 in the women’s singles match.

Gauff, aiming for her second Grand Slam title, impressed with her solid performance against Fernandez, the 30th seed and 2021 US Open finalist. However, much of the buzz around the 20-year-old this week has been focused on her bold outfit choice.

“I think this is the fourth or fifth time I’ve worn a bodysuit, and I’m really enjoying it,” Gauff said during her post-match interview. “We have this annual vision meeting where I share my ideas, and they turn it into a design, so I love that my interests are reflected in the outfits.”

She also humorously addressed a common question about the practicality of the bodysuit: “A lot of people were wondering how I use the bathroom in it. I posted a video on Instagram stories to explain—not actually demonstrating, but just to give the idea. Okay, that was TMI. Sorry, I don’t know when to stop!”

Gauff will face Belinda Bencic in the next round, after the Swiss player advanced following Naomi Osaka’s retirement from their third-round match due to injury.

Meanwhile, women’s top seed Aryna Sabalenka also progressed and will now face 14th seed Mirra Andreeva.

On the men’s side, Novak Djokovic continued his bid for a record-breaking Grand Slam title, defeating Tomas Machac in straight sets. Carlos Alcaraz triumphed in four sets over Portugal’s Nuno Borges, setting up a fourth-round clash with 15th seed Jack Draper, who prevailed in a five-set thriller.
