Ahead of their anticipated showdown at the Madrid Open, Coco Gauff opened up about her thoughts on facing Belinda Bencic once again.
Reflecting on their previous encounter at Indian Wells, Gauff said:
“We had a tough match at Indian Wells. She plays really good tennis. I’m just making sure I’m ready for her — she’s a solid baseliner, and I know she’ll be aggressive and looking to dictate play. But for me, it’s about playing my own game — using height, adding some heaviness to my shots, and being physical out there.”
Gauff also analyzed the stylistic contrast between the two players:
“It’s going to be an interesting one. She hits a bit flatter while I play with more spin and heaviness, so I like to think that style-wise it favors me a little. Still, she beat me last time at Indian Wells, and she’s always a tough competitor.”

Following her third-round victory, Gauff assessed her own performance:
“Overall, it was a solid performance. I just tried to stay steady. She was making some errors today, so I didn’t feel like I had to force too much. I focused on pushing her into defensive positions and letting the match come to me.”
