After losing the match to Krejcikova, Coco Gauff attended the press conference. During the press conference, a journalist asked her about how she balances the pressure of expectations with her love and passion for tennis. In reply to this Coco Gauff said, “I think, for me, I think honestly, pettiness. Yeah, I think, that’s really the answer. I think I just love to be, like, say I’m right and stuff, and obviously it doesn’t work. I don’t win all the time, but, specifically today, I got a lot of comments about how I was going to lose badly today. So I was just like, ‘Okay, we’ll see’. And obviously, I don’t know. So yeah, I think it’s honestly just liking the idea of just proving people wrong and letting your racket do the talking.

She further revealed how she now tricks her mind into using people’s criticism of her as motivation. “I think it’s just training your mind to think these things, whether that’s how the person intended it, probably not. But, if you trick your mind, it’s crazy you know how your mind’s daily mindset and daily thoughts and decisions can change,” said Gauff. Facing a backlash on social media is not a new thing for the 20-year-old. In fact, she has faced these types of situations multiple times during the last few years. With time, she has now learned how to tackle all these things effectively! Do you think Coco Gauff can shut down all the critics by winning the title at the WTA Finals?
