The much-anticipated Netflix documentary on Carlos Alcaraz recently premiered to coincide with his home tournament, the Madrid Masters. Promotional banners even adorned umpire chairs at the Magic Box arena to mark the release.

Though Alcaraz’s marketing team is clearly positioning the 21-year-old as the face of men’s tennis, a key rival, Daniil Medvedev, has made it clear that fans shouldn’t expect a similar show about his life anytime soon.

“Damn, it’s cameras all over you, all day long. That’s not me,” Medvedev said when asked about participating in such a project.

While the 2021 US Open champion appreciates fan interactions during matches and even in public settings, he draws a firm line when it comes to his private life.

“If I’m out to dinner with my family, I say no to pictures. After dinner is fine, but I need personal space. A documentary would just be too much. Once you agree, they want everything—your wife, your kids, your dinner habits, your shower routine. At some point, you have to keep something to yourself.”

“That’s probably why I’ll never do a documentary. But… never say never.”

Meanwhile, Alcaraz had to withdraw from the Madrid Open due to injury, casting doubt on his immediate return. Still, he remains hopeful about competing in Rome and defending his title at Roland Garros.

“My plan is to go to Rome,” Alcaraz said. “I’ll do some tests early next week and hope to be back on court soon.
