Emma Raducanu Earns Over £145,000 Despite Miami Open Quarter-Final Loss
Emma Raducanu has secured a six-figure payday despite her defeat to Jessica Pegula, the world’s richest tennis player, in the Miami Open quarter-finals. The British star fought hard but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 to Pegula, who will face Alexandra Eala in the semi-finals.
Although Raducanu’s trophy drought continues since her 2021 US Open triumph, she showed strong form earlier in the tournament, defeating Emma Navarro and Amanda Anisimova. For reaching the quarter-finals, she will receive £145,785 and 200 ranking points. Had she progressed further, she would have been guaranteed at least £256,143, with the tournament champion set to take home £867,251.
During her match, Raducanu experienced dizziness and needed medical attention as the humid conditions took a toll. Speaking afterward, she admitted feeling faint and unsure of the cause. Nutritionist Daniel Herman suggested her team might have done more to help her acclimatize, emphasizing the importance of hydration and electrolyte balance in extreme conditions.
Despite the setback, Raducanu remains optimistic, having rediscovered a “missing” feeling in her game.
