Emma Raducanu Receives Encouragement from Boris Becker After Miami Open Exit
Despite her Miami Open heartbreak, Emma Raducanu received a positive message from tennis legend Boris Becker. The German former world No.1 praised Raducanu’s performance, writing on social media:
“Nice little comeback from Emma! Onwards and upwards.”
Raducanu put up a strong fight in her quarterfinal match against Jessica Pegula but ultimately fell short, losing 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. The British star battled through tough conditions, even requiring a medical timeout due to dizziness and fatigue.
“I just felt really dizzy. I felt faint. It was very humid out there, and we had a long wait. Maybe it was just an accumulation of physical points, long rallies, and heavy conditions. I don’t know how I regrouped in the second set, but in the third, I definitely struggled a little bit,” Raducanu shared in an interview with TennisOne.
Pegula, who advanced to the semifinals, acknowledged the difficulty of the match and praised Raducanu’s efforts:
“It was tough. I played a good first set, had a bit of a letdown in the second, but I got it back. She started moving the ball really well and serving great. Sometimes it just flips, and I wanted to come out in the third set strong and not let it stay too close.”
Despite the loss, Raducanu’s Miami Open run was her best tournament showing in years, hinting at a promising return to form. With Becker’s encouragement and her own determination, she looks ahead to the upcoming clay and grass court seasons.
