Emma Raducanu has faced a series of challenges leading up to the Australian Open, including a back spasm that forced her to withdraw from the Auckland International in late December.

Additionally, she experienced an allergic reaction to ant bites, causing swelling in her hand and foot. Raducanu chose not to use an antiseptic spray on the bites due to concerns over potential doping violations, especially in light of recent cases involving players like Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner.

In response to these setbacks, her former coach, Mark Petchey, has advised Raducanu to “play through the pain” to build resilience and consistency. He emphasized the importance of participating in tournaments regularly, regardless of minor injuries or unfavorable outcomes, to regain her form and confidence.

I’m prepared and ready to go.” She also expressed confidence in her potential, saying, “I think I can be a dangerous opponent for anyone really.”
