Emma Raducanu makes surprising pick when choosing WTA colleague as someone she’d like to have as a coach
Emma Raducanu Eyes Ons Jabeur as a Future Coach
Many tennis players transition into coaching after their careers, but Emma Raducanu already has a particular WTA star in mind—even before that player retires.
The 2021 US Open champion has faced a challenging road since her breakthrough victory, including a premature end to her 2024 season due to injury. After making her comeback at the Australian Open 2025, she suffered several early exits before reaching the second round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, where she lost to Karolina Muchova.
Raducanu Picks Ons Jabeur as Her Ideal Coach
During an interview in Dubai, Raducanu was asked which active WTA player she would choose as a coach, either now or in the future.
“I would want Ons Jabeur to coach me because I think she has an amazing energy,” Raducanu said. “She’s a really caring and generous person, funny but also very tactical with the way she plays. She has a lot at her disposal. So maybe one day, Ons.”
Jabeur, widely regarded as one of the nicest players on tour, has achieved great success in recent years. The Tunisian star reached a career-high World No.2 ranking in 2022, the same year she finished runner-up at Wimbledon and the US Open.
Raducanu’s Coaching Carousel
Raducanu’s admiration for Jabeur comes amid her well-documented struggles to maintain a long-term coaching relationship. Since her US Open triumph, she has worked with multiple coaches in a short span, gaining a reputation for frequent changes in her team.
Whether Jabeur eventually takes on a coaching role remains to be seen, but Raducanu’s choice highlights the Tunisian’s tactical brilliance and leadership qualities—perhaps foreshadowing a future mentor-student duo on tour.
