Emma Raducanu expressed pride and confidence after her hard-fought three-set victory over Maya Joint at the 2025 Italian Open, describing the match as a “really high” level and a significant boost for her game. The 7-5, 6-7(1), 6-3 win marked her first victory in Rome in only her second appearance at the event. Despite losing a lead in the second set, Raducanu regrouped and dominated early in the third, though she had to fend off a late comeback from Joint. She highlighted the challenging conditions—nighttime, heavy clay, and cold weather—as adding to the value of the win, stating, “I’m really proud. I take a lot of confidence from this win, not just because I won, but I think the level in general was really high, and I was committing to my shots.”[

Regarding Mark Petchey’s absence, Raducanu noted that he was commentating for the Tennis Channel during her match, leaving Jane O’Donoghue as her sole supporter in the coaching box. She lightheartedly remarked, “Petch, I think was on comms of my match, so I hope he was nice to me,” showing no frustration with his absence. Raducanu acknowledged the logistical challenges of their informal coaching arrangement, as Petchey balances broadcasting commitments, but she remained positive about their collaboration.[]
