Just before Indian Wells, Raducanu announced that she was adding Platenik on a trial basis. However, two weeks later—right before her Miami Open campaign—she decided to end the partnership. While it was always a trial arrangement, many were surprised by how quickly it concluded.

Platenik later revealed to BBC Sport that Raducanu told him she was feeling a great deal of stress and pressure.

Despite the split, the decision hasn’t hindered Raducanu’s performance. She has powered through to her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal in Miami, defeating Sayaka Ishii, Emma Navarro, McCartney Kessler, and Amanda Anisimova along the way.

Raducanu: “We Did Some Great Work, But It Wasn’t the Right Time”

Reflecting on their brief time together, Raducanu acknowledged Platenik’s impact on her game.

“I think the work we did before the tournament, even though it was only about 10 days to two weeks, really helped. I can see the benefits on the match court right now,” the 22-year-old said.

“He is a great coach—very experienced, having worked with and developed many top players. I have a lot of respect for him. But for me, it just didn’t feel right at this moment. I don’t know what the future holds, but this week has shown me how important it is to be happy, expressive, and true to myself on court.”

Raducanu also highlighted the support she’s received from Jane O’Donoghue and Mark Petchey—two coaches she’s worked with since her junior days—who have been by her side in Miami.

Up next, Raducanu faces Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals.
