Emma Raducanu Cruises Past Sayaka Ishii in Miami Open First Round

Emma Raducanu made a dominant start to her Miami Open campaign, dispatching wildcard Sayaka Ishii 6-2, 6-1 in just over an hour to advance to the second round. The former US Open champion delivered a confident performance, overwhelming her less-experienced opponent.

Ishii, ranked No. 188, was making her WTA 1000 debut, but the Japanese player struggled to handle the occasion. She found little success on serve and was unable to keep up with Raducanu’s pace from the baseline.

First Set: Raducanu Takes Control

Raducanu, currently ranked No. 60, set the tone early with an immediate break of serve. Although she briefly stumbled—losing her own serve to love in the next game—she quickly regained control. Winning 16 of the next 21 points, Raducanu dominated the rallies and found consistency on serve.

The Brit landed 70% of her first serves, winning 64% of those points, while Ishii—despite an impressive 83% first-serve percentage—managed to win just 40% of those points. Raducanu closed out the set in commanding fashion, winning four consecutive games to take it 6-2.

Second Set: Raducanu Races to Victory

Raducanu carried her momentum into the second set, raising her first-serve percentage to 75% and winning a staggering 93% of those points. She went on a nine-game winning streak, breaking Ishii twice and surging to a 5-0 lead.

Ishii managed to hold serve once to avoid a second-set bagel, but Raducanu made no mistake in closing out the match, sealing a 6-2, 6-1 victory with a confident service game.

Raducanu will now face American No. 8 seed Emma Navarro in the second round, marking their first-ever meeting on tour.
