Following a stalking ordeal in Dubai, Emma Raducanu will return to tennis at Indian Wells with reinforced security. The 22-year-old will be protected by up to five security personnel during the tournament.

Raducanu was unsettled by a man who had followed her to multiple tournaments, including Singapore, Abu Dhabi, and Doha, before approaching her in Dubai.1 During her match against Karolina Muchova, she was visibly distressed and sought refuge behind the umpire’s chair when she spotted him in the stands.2

Instead, she will travel to Indian Wells with heightened security, including a protective ring of staff during her movements to and from the court and during autograph sessions.5 This increased security aims to reassure Raducanu and other players.

“Thank you for the messages of support. Difficult experience yesterday but I’ll be okay and proud of how I came back and competed despite what happened,” Raducanu shared on Instagram. The WTA also affirmed their commitment to her safety.
