‘Everyone knows I don’t like them’ – Luke Littler overcomes major test as he bids to make more darting history
Luke Littler remains on track to make history by winning back-to-back titles at the UK Open Darts Championship.
The world No.1 battled back from 3–0 down to secure a gritty 10–6 victory over Danny Noppert and book his place in the semi-finals in Minehead.
Littler, 19, had to dig deep after another slow afternoon start but eventually rediscovered the explosive form that has made him one of the sport’s most dominant players.
“The Nuke” is chasing a fifth consecutive major title and has not been beaten in a televised major tournament since October 25.
Remarkably, Littler has now reached his 16th televised semi-final in just over two years — and is still yet to lose at that stage.
Victory in Minehead would also make him just the fourth player in history to win consecutive UK Open titles, joining legends Raymond van Barneveld, Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen.
Speaking after the match, Littler said:
“It can be a long day with three games, but for me it’s just about getting through the afternoon session. Everyone knows I don’t really like the afternoon games.
“Me and Danny have had some good battles in the past. I don’t think the tournament has been great in terms of averages or 180s, but the finishing has been there — which usually isn’t the case. Hopefully I can put everything together later today.”
Noppert made the brighter start, racing into a 3–0 lead as Littler missed five darts at doubles.
However, the teenage sensation soon found his rhythm.
He eventually edged ahead 6–5 before shifting into top gear, producing a stunning run that included seven perfect darts to move 9–6 in front. Littler sealed the victory by hitting double 11 to close out the match.
Elsewhere in the quarter-finals, Josh Rock defeated Krzysztof Ratajski 10–7, while James Wade edged past Rob Cross 10–9 in a thrilling encounter.
With a lively crowd, wild fancy dress and world-class performances on the oche, the atmosphere in Minehead continues to deliver one of the biggest party atmospheres in darts.
