Former ATP ace Makes Shocking Statement On Alexander Zverev Participation In French Open Tournament 2025
Despite reaching the final of the 2025 Australian Open, Alexander Zverev remains distant from claiming his first Grand Slam title. Currently ranked world No. 2, Zverev has made notable improvements in his game in recent months, which were evident in his strong results toward the end of 2024 and his impressive run at Melbourne Park. His path to the final was marked by consistency and decisive play, as he won his matches without expending too much energy, particularly benefitting from Novak Djokovic’s retirement in the semifinals due to a thigh injury.
However, Zverev’s hopes of a competitive final against world No. 1 Jannik Sinner were dashed. The Italian star dominated from start to finish, winning in straight sets and not allowing Zverev a single break point on the iconic Rod Laver Arena. In his post-match press conference, Zverev expressed his disappointment, admitting the clear superiority of Sinner in every aspect of the game.
As Zverev sets his sights on the French Open, it’s clear he still needs to elevate his game to break through and win a Major title. Former French tennis star Arnaud Clement, in an interview with Eurosport, shared his doubts about Zverev’s chances of winning a Grand Slam soon.
“I’m sorry to be strict, but I don’t think he has much chance of winning a Major title anytime soon,” Clement said. “If there are no further improvements in his game between now and Roland Garros, he will hardly be able to win.”
Clement also noted that Zverev’s opportunities might depend on external factors. “If Sinner is suspended due to the doping case and Carlos Alcaraz is injured, maybe Sascha will have a chance. However, if these two players are in good shape, the German has no chance of defeating them,” he concluded.
Zverev faces a steep climb ahead if he hopes to lift his first Grand Slam trophy, particularly in a field dominated by rising stars like Sinner and Alcaraz.
