Tennis star Alexander Zverev fell short in his pursuit of a maiden Grand Slam title at the 2025 Australian Open, prompting retired French tennis ace Arnaud Clement to cast doubt on the German’s chances of winning a Major in the near future.

Zverev, the former World No. 2, impressed many with his run in Melbourne, securing notable victories over Tommy Paul and Novak Djokovic to reach the final. However, he was unable to overcome defending champion Jannik Sinner, who cruised to a straight-set win to claim the title.

According to Clement, Zverev will need to make significant improvements to his game if he hopes to break through at the Grand Slam level. With the 2025 French Open approaching, where Zverev was a finalist in 2024, the German will once again have a chance to claim his first Major. Yet, Clement is skeptical about his prospects at Roland Garros unless changes are made.

“I’m sorry to be harsh, but I don’t think he has much of a chance to win a Major anytime soon,” Clement stated. “If there are no further improvements in his game between now and Roland Garros, it’s unlikely he will come out on top.

“Of course, if Sinner is suspended due to his doping case and Carlos Alcaraz is injured, maybe Sascha could have a chance. But if both players are fit and performing well, I don’t see him defeating either of them.”

Clement’s blunt assessment underscores the challenge Zverev faces in competing with the top players in the world, particularly Sinner and Alcaraz, who have dominated in recent years.
