Gerwyn Price has revealed the brutal nickname he has given to his daughter’s boyfriend during an appearance on the Tops & Tales Darts Podcast.
The 2021 world champion remains one of the sport’s biggest personalities and has been included in the 2026 Premier League lineup, despite a disappointing showing at the most recent World Darts Championship, where he suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to Wesley Plaisier in the second round.
Price, who made the transition from rugby to darts, has been part of the Professional Darts Corporation since January 2014 and currently sits 12th in the Order of Merit, having earned £551,000 in prize money.
His wife Bethan and their two children have long been a constant source of support for “The Iceman,” and Price opened up about the importance of that backing while speaking on the podcast.
He admitted he feels he often performs better when his wife is present at his matches.
“Without the support it’s definitely a lot harder,” Price said when discussing family life on tour.
“Every time I’m away it’s constant support — there’s never any, ‘I don’t want you to be away this week’.
“She comes away with me quite a lot, and I know there’s some players, and players who are not on the Pro Tour now and haven’t got their tour card, that probably lost it because they didn’t have that backing.
“I know there’s players that still play, when they lose, rather than get hard lines they get a lot of grief and that’s not a good look.”
Price went on to describe Bethan as something of a lucky charm.
“She’s a good omen for me. Every time she comes away with me I seem to play a lot better — hence why she’s with me this week!
“Every time she comes I seem to do a bit better.”
The Welshman was speaking during the World Masters event in Milton Keynes, where Luke Littler continued his dominance by beating Luke Humphries to lift the £100,000 prize and claim the title for the first time.
Price’s own run ended in the semi-finals, where he was edged out by Littler after victories over James Hurrell, fellow Welshman Jonny Clayton, and Chris Dobey.
And while Price enjoys having his wife around for major tournaments, he joked that his daughter’s boyfriend brings the opposite effect — so much so that he has given him a harsh nickname.
“On the other hand, when my daughter and her boyfriend — not so much my daughter but her boyfriend — I call him the ‘jinx’,” Price laughed.
“He’ll say, ‘If you get through to the final I’ll be up Sunday,’ and I go, ‘No you won’t!’”
