Still the only player to win Wimbledon as a wildcard, Goran Ivanisevic has forged a successful career after his playing days.

Having overseen Marin Cilic’s only Grand Slam title at the US Open, as well as nine major titles with Novak Djokovic.

In the wake of Cilic’s doping-related nine-month suspension that came into effect in the middle of his 2013 Wimbledon participation, the player reached out to his compatriot Ivanisevic to become his new coach.

Now with Jannik Sinner facing the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) who have re-opened the drugs case he was initially cleared of, Ivanisevic has made his stance abundantly clear.

Goran Ivanisevic makes clear his stance in stern message to WADA

The Croatian will unfortunately be all too familiar with the slow and often agonizing process WADA take when assessing cases like Sinner’s.

Cilic, who was ranked inside the top 15 at the time, had his nine-month suspension eventually reduced to four months.

Speaking to Tennis Majors, mostly about his new role with Rybakina, Ivanisevic also made clear his views on Sinner’s doping case, insisting WADA ‘leave him alone’.

He said: “I sincerely hope they leave him alone and that they let him play, tennis needs Sinner. With (Marin) Cilic, I’ve had to deal with WADA and such people, a lot of people that I didn’t like, that just want to destroy someone’s life.”

He concluded with a message of support for the Italian: “I hope that the outcome is positive for Sinner.”

Goran Ivanisevic is the right person to help Elena Rybakina

Ivanisevic feels an ideal fit to support Rybakina at this stage of her career, especially with the comedown from that Wimbledon title feeling somewhat fractured.

The Russian already has the talent and big-match experience to excel, and Ivanisevic’s track record with top players can guide her to even greater heights.

Known for his success coaching elite players to titles, he can already offer a winning mindset and the ability to handle the pressures of the tour.

Rybakina, coming off a challenging breakup with former coach Stefano Vukov, may also benefit from Ivanisevic’s steady guidance as she works to rediscover her passion for the game.

With the right mentorship, Ivanisevic can help Rybakina rekindle her love for tennis and maximize her potential.
