Aston Villa could look to splash the cash in the final few weeks of the summer transfer window.
Aston Villa have been very busy this summer as they prepare for a season which will include Champions League football. Unai Emery has welcomed seven new players to his squad, with Douglas Luiz and Moussa Diaby both being sold to raise funds.
There is still work to do in the transfer market for Villa though, with several marquee signings being eyed to ensure that the club have sufficient depth to compete on all fronts. Express Sport takes a look at how the dream conclusion of the window would look at Villa Park…
Chelsea deal for Joao Felix hijacked
Villa are long-term admirers of Atletico Madrid forward Felix, but the finances involved in securing his signature have always proved a sticking point in their pursuit. However, after their recent sales, hijacking Chelsea’s move for the Portugal international would be a major coup for the club and ensure that Emery’s squad has true depth in the final third.
Although some may not welcome Grealish back to Villa Park with open arms, there is no doubt that he would make a significant impact at the club – may that be on loan or on a permanent basis.
Grealish has impressed on occasions at City but struggled for consistency following his £100million move in 2021 and he looks like a shadow of the player who tore the Premier League apart at Villa. A return to familiar surroundings could relight the fire in the belly of the playmaker and help his former club challenge for silverware.
Diego Carlos to Saudi Pro League
Fulham and Saudi Pro League sides have shortlisted Carlos as a defensive target, and a move to the latter would be the best-case scenario for Villa. Middle Eastern outfits have been reasonably quiet in the transfer window this summer, though they could return with a bang by tabling a mammoth offer for the 31-year-old to strike a quick-fire deal.
