Paige Spiranac didn’t provide her typical amount of golf analysis on social media during the PGA Championship this weekend, as she’s been busy with the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue launch.
Spiranac did of course have her eye on what was unfolding at Valhalla though, and on Sunday she watched Xander Schauffele knock in a six-foot putt for birdie on 18 to capture his first major championship.
Schauffele shot 21-under for the weekend, a major championship record and one stroke better than runner-up Bryson DeChambeau. Moments after his winning putt touched the bottom of the hole, Spiranac shouted out Schauffele on X/Twitter.
“2 great redemption stories at the PGA Championship. Xander was finally able to get it done when it mattered most and Bryson is beloved by the fans. Feel good all around. What a drama packed, incredible major!” Spiranac wrote.
Schauffele entered this week with six top-five major finishes and 12 top 10s. The gold medal winner at the last Olympics, he had come tantalizingly close to closing the deal before only to come up short.
That was not the case today. Schauffele came in tied for first, and he kept up his performance all afternoon, firing a 65 to hold off DeChambeau, who had knotted things up with his own birdie on the final hole.
Viktor Hovland came in third at 18-under, followed by Thomas Detry and Collin Morikawa at 15-under.
