Greg Rusedski tells Ben Shelton three areas he must improve and predicts his ranking in 2025
Ben Shelton has been encouraged by Greg Rusedski to improve several areas of his game next season.
Several young players have made great strides on the ATP Tour this season, and the American is one of them.
He claimed the second title of his career in April and upped his consistency to break into the top 15 for the first time.
In 2025 the American will certainly have eyes on entering the top 10, and Rusedski thinks he has the game to do so should he make some more adjustments.
What does Greg Rusedski think Ben Shelton needs to improve in his game?
Ben Shelton burst on to the ATP Tour in 2022, after choosing to forego his final year of college and turn professional. It was a decision that paid off, as the 21-year-old has two titles and a Grand Slam semi-final to his name.
Shelton will always be a threat just with his massive serve, and his explosive groundstrokes and adept court coverage make him one of the dangerous players on tour.
While praising Shelton and predicting him to break into the top 10, Greg Rusedski highlighted the areas of his game that he can improve to get to the next level.
“I think he has had a great year. His Dad has done a great job with his whole team of getting a little bit more consistent in 2024,” the British number one told Tennis Channel.
“It’s just getting a little bit more solid on returns, keep improving that backhand side and just learning how to play the bigger moments and using that energy. He has that wonderful youthful spirit of exuberance, I love the way he serves and volleys and mixes it up.
“He is better than he was in 2023 so there is no reason why 2025 can’t be the reason why he breaks through between 10 and five because he is explosive.”

Is Ben Shelton’ playing in the Davis Cup?
Despite losing in the second round at the Paris Masters, Shelton’s season is not over.
He has been selected to represent the USA in the Davis Cup finals in Malaga, alongside Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek.
This will be Shelton’s first appearance in the Davis Cup and he will aim to help his country win the tournament for a record-extending 33rd time.
“Our team is excited about the opportunity to travel to Malaga in November to compete for the trophy,” USA team captain Bob Bryan said. “The draw is full of strong teams, but our players are ready for the challenge and look forward to facing a tough Aussie squad in the quarterfinals.

“U.S. men’s tennis has an impressive roster to choose from, and I know our players not only have the belief but also share a special camaraderie, which makes these Davis Cup weeks so much fun.”
