Jasmine Paolini’s Coach Reveals Jannik Sinner Was Interrogated Over Doping Case Before Australian Open Final

Jannik Sinner, the world No. 1 in men’s tennis, was reportedly interrogated by authorities regarding his doping test the night before the 2025 Australian Open final, according to Renzo Furlan, coach of Italy’s Jasmine Paolini.

Sinner, already recognized as one of the sport’s top players alongside Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, secured his second Grand Slam title in Melbourne, defeating world No. 2 Alexander Zverev in straight sets (6-3, 7-6, 6-3).

However, new revelations suggest that just hours before his title match, Sinner was questioned extensively in relation to his doping case, adding further pressure to his championship run.

Furlan Praises Sinner’s Mental Strength Amid Controversy

Furlan shared insights from his conversation with Sinner, commending the 23-year-old’s resilience despite the ongoing scrutiny.

“There was always this doping situation hanging over his head,” Furlan said. “I told him, ‘You’ve done extraordinary things under this pressure.’ And he replied, ‘Do you know what happened in Cincinnati? Things could have gone well or badly. For the first time, we rented a house instead of a hotel room. We had two cars—one for me, one for my team. I needed those moments alone. It may sound small, but it gave me peace of mind.’”

Furlan also revealed that before Sinner’s semifinal against Zverev, he endured an interrogation from 4 AM to 10 AM, only to win his match in straight sets later that day.

“Only someone with extraordinary qualities can do that,” he added, highlighting Sinner’s ability to perform under immense pressure.

Sinner’s doping case remains a hot topic in the tennis world, with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) challenging the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) ruling that cleared him. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is set to deliver a final verdict on the matter in April 2025.
