Holger Rune’s mother, Aneke Rune, has confirmed a significant development in her son’s career, announcing that Marco Panichi, a renowned fitness coach previously associated with Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner, will join Holger’s team. Speaking to Danish outlet B.T., Aneke revealed the move, stating, “We will welcome Marco Panichi to the team. He brings enormous experience—not just in the physical aspect, but everything related to building a Grand Slam winner.” She highlighted their long-standing positive relationship with Panichi, noting, “We know Marco very well and have always had a really good relationship with him. And he has always liked Holger.” Aneke also drew a connection to Djokovic, emphasizing that Panichi’s working style, honed during his seven-year tenure with the 24-time Grand Slam champion, aligns with their vision for a fitness coach actively involved in training.

This bombshell comes as Holger, currently ranked No. 8, seeks to address physical inconsistencies that have hampered his progress, including injuries and early exits like his Wimbledon 2025 loss to Nicolas Jarry. Panichi, who parted ways with Sinner just before Wimbledon—where Sinner won his fourth Major—brings a wealth of experience, having also contributed to Djokovic’s prolonged dominance and Sinner’s rise to No. 1. The partnership is set to begin at the Cincinnati Masters, starting August 7, 2025, alongside Rune’s existing coach, Lars Christensen. Aneke’s comments underscore the strategic intent to elevate Holger’s game, leveraging Panichi’s proven track record to pursue Grand Slam success, with the US Open looming on August 24.
