Despite the banter, Alcaraz acknowledged that Sinner’s presence could have made for an exciting final.

“Probably we could have played a great final, who knows. I always want to play against the best tennis player in the world just to see where my level is.”

Backing Sinner’s Decision to Withdraw

Sinner’s late withdrawal was due to the need for rest after his successful Australian Open title defense. Alcaraz expressed understanding for his rival’s choice.

“Obviously, he decided to pull out of the tournament last minute. His reason – I understand him, for sure.”

However, he admitted that Sinner’s presence would have been a great addition to the tournament.
