‘I Think It’s Quite Rude’ – James Wade Blasts Luke vs Luke World Darts Final Talk
James Wade has criticised the growing narrative around a potential “Luke vs Luke” World Darts Championship final, describing the discussion as disrespectful to the rest of the field.
With much of the pre-tournament hype focused on teenage sensation Luke Littler and reigning star Luke Humphries, talk of a dream final between the two has dominated coverage. But Wade believes that obsession overlooks the depth of quality in the competition.
“I think it’s quite rude, if I’m honest,” Wade said. “There are probably 12 players in this tournament who are more than capable of winning it. To already be talking about a final before so many matches have been played doesn’t sit right with me.”
The comments come amid the early stages of the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace, where form, pressure and fine margins often turn predictions on their head.
Wade, one of the most experienced players on the circuit, stressed that darts is not a sport where reputations alone win matches. He pointed to the demanding format and the unforgiving nature of Ally Pally as reasons why assumptions can quickly unravel.
“Anyone who’s played here knows how tough it is,” he added. “One off night, one bad session, and you’re out. It doesn’t matter who you are.”
While Wade acknowledged the quality of both Littler and Humphries, he insisted the tournament should be allowed to unfold naturally, rather than being framed around a single potential outcome.
Fans have been divided by the comments, with some agreeing that the hype has become excessive, while others argue that the rivalry between the two Lukes is good for the sport. Still, Wade’s remarks highlight a wider feeling among players that the spotlight should be shared more evenly.
As the championship progresses, Wade’s words may yet prove prophetic. With several former champions and in-form contenders still in the draw, the race for darts’ biggest prize remains wide open — regardless of the headlines. 🎯
