“I think that is his best opportunity”: John Isner, Sam Querrey name Grand Slam title Alexander Zverev likely to win after Australian Open heartbreak
Former American players John Isner and Sam Querrey believe Germany’s Alexander Zverev’s best chance of winning a Grand Slam is at the French Open. The 27-year-old, one of the most prominent figures in men’s tennis, has yet to translate his potential into a major title.
Zverev faced disappointment once again at the 2025 Australian Open, where he lost to world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. This marked the third time Zverev has fallen short in a Grand Slam final. In 2020, he lost a five-set thriller to Dominic Thiem at the US Open, and in 2024, he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in another five-set battle at the French Open.
Isner and Querrey recently expressed their belief that Zverev’s best chance for a major title lies at Roland Garros.
“I think it’s the French,” Isner said. Querrey agreed, adding, “His ball striking, his size, and his ability to hit through the clay make the French Open his best opportunity. He’s already been to the finals there, and if the draw sets up right, especially if he avoids players like Sinner or Alcaraz, I think that’s his best shot at winning a Slam.”
