Phil Taylor vs. Luke Littler: Why the Dream Darts Clash Won’t Happen

Darts fans have been buzzing about a potential showdown between Phil Taylor and Luke Littler—a battle of generations that would electrify the sport. However, Dennis Priestley, one of Taylor’s fiercest rivals, believes it will never happen.

Taylor’s Legacy at Stake

Priestley, who faced Taylor in four of the first five PDC World Darts Championship finals, knows him better than most. According to him, Taylor is too protective of his legacy to risk a loss against Littler.

“Phil Taylor at his peak, mentally and physically, would have given even the best version of Luke Littler a lot to think about,” Priestley told OLBG. “But fans shouldn’t get their hopes up. The only way Taylor would consider it is for silly money.”

Now 64 years old, Taylor retired in 2018 with 14 world titles—a record many once thought was untouchable. But with Littler’s meteoric rise, some believe the young star could challenge his dominance.

Littler Still Hopes for a Match

Despite Taylor’s reluctance, Littler remains optimistic. Speaking to SPORTbible, he said:

“I’m sure that will happen soon. To share the stage with him would be incredible.”

However, Taylor quickly dismissed the idea in an interview with GB News, jokingly referencing their April Fool’s Day prank:

“No! Absolutely not! What’s that game where you push the blocks out? Jenga. He beat me at that! The little b*****!”*

Darts fans hoping for a legendary showdown may have to settle for exhibition matches—if Taylor even agrees to that. For now, the debate over whether “The Power” could still compete with Littler remains just that—a debate.
