Iga Swiatek Announces Tough Decision Ahead of 2025 Clay Season
World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has made a surprising announcement regarding her schedule for the upcoming clay season. The Polish star revealed that she will not be competing in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifying round, a decision she described as “difficult” but necessary for her career.
Swiatek Prioritizes Balance and Training
Swiatek took to social media to share her decision, acknowledging that it might disappoint her fans, especially those in Poland.
“I have made a difficult decision. I know this is not the news that fans, especially Polish ones, wanted, but it is the right decision for me at this moment. I will not play in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifying tournament in Radom,” Swiatek wrote.
The four-time Grand Slam champion emphasized her pride in representing her country, reflecting on her contributions to Poland’s historic runs in last year’s BJK Cup semifinals and United Cup finals. However, she now feels the need to focus more on personal growth and training.
“I always represent my country with pride. I played everything there was to play for the national team last year. Now, it’s time for more balance—focusing on myself and my training. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the girls and the whole team,” she added.
What’s Next for Swiatek?
With this decision, Swiatek will officially kick off her clay-court campaign at the Stuttgart Open, where she is the defending champion. As the dominant force on clay, fans will be eager to see how she performs leading up to Roland Garros, where she will aim for her fourth French Open title.
