Iga Swiatek remarked that Emma Raducanu “lost her belief a bit” after dominating the British player in a lopsided match at the Australian Open. Swiatek, the world No. 2, delivered what she described as the “perfect” performance, winning the last 11 games and wrapping up a 6-1, 6-0 victory in just 70 minutes on Rod Laver Arena.

The Polish star, now a five-time Grand Slam champion, has become known for her ability to completely dismantle opponents, with this match marking the 72nd time she’s handed out a bagel at Tour level. She did not face a single break point and hit 24 winners en route to the fourth round, having lost only 10 games in the tournament so far.

“For sure, I felt great,” Swiatek said. “I felt like the ball was listening to me. This match was kind of perfect for me.”

When asked if she could sense that the match would be one-sided, Swiatek explained, “I try not to think like that during the match because it can make you complacent. I just wanted to stay focused and finish it.”

She added that she believed Raducanu’s confidence may have wavered, but noted, “You never know what’s happening on the other side of the net. If I didn’t stay intense, if I backed off, she would have taken advantage because she’s an experienced player. I just focused on myself and didn’t change anything.”

Swiatek clarified that her approach isn’t about ruthlessness, but consistency. “It’s not personal. I wouldn’t say I’m ruthless. I just try to maintain the same attitude and focus, no matter the score.”

Asked if she felt her dominant performance made a statement, Swiatek downplayed the idea. “I’m not trying to prove anything. I’m just playing my game. If it’s working, why stop? I’ve seen many matches where players come back from tough positions. I’m always ready for a battle.”

Swiatek’s next challenge will be against German lucky loser Eva Lys in the fourth round on Monday, as she continues her campaign for the title.
