Iga Swiatek’s Playful Dig at Umpire After Miami Open Time Violation
Iga Swiatek couldn’t resist teasing umpire Marija Cicak after receiving a time violation warning during her Miami Open victory over Elina Svitolina. The World No. 2 secured a hard-fought 7-6(5), 6-3 win but took a lighthearted jab at Cicak post-match.
While serving for the match, Swiatek deliberately slowed her pace to regain composure. As expected, Cicak issued a time violation warning—prompting Swiatek to quip afterward, “I almost thought I’m not getting a time violation from you.” She then playfully snapped her fingers before waving to fans.
This isn’t the first time the two have clashed over timing rules. During the 2023 Western & Southern Open, Cicak penalized Swiatek for not being ready to receive serve, leading to a heated exchange. However, Swiatek later downplayed any tension, acknowledging Cicak’s strict officiating.
Recently, Swiatek also made headlines at Indian Wells when she hit a ball in frustration, narrowly missing a ball kid. The Polish star later apologized, admitting, “I expressed frustration in a way I’m not proud of.”
Swiatek’s Miami Open run continues, but her on-court interactions—whether with opponents or umpires—remain just as captivating.
