Iga Swiatek Continues Dominant Indian Wells Run, Surpasses Serena Williams’ WTA 1000 Record
Iga Swiatek has extended her impressive form at Indian Wells, defeating Karolina Muchova to book her place in the quarter-finals.
After struggling during the Middle Eastern swing, the World No. 1 has quickly regained her rhythm while defending her Indian Wells title. In a rematch of the 2023 Roland Garros final, Swiatek showcased her adaptability on the newly resurfaced courts, which have been changed for the first time in 25 years.
Now aiming for a historic third Indian Wells title, Swiatek has already broken a WTA 1000 record, surpassing the legendary Serena Williams.
Swiatek Overtakes Serena Williams in WTA 1000 Quarter-Final Record
With her latest victory, Swiatek now holds the highest quarter-final conversion rate in WTA 1000 history. She has reached the final eight in 61.8% of her appearances (21 out of 34 events), edging past Williams, who had a 61.2% rate (30 out of 49 events).
The only other players close to this record are Maria Sharapova, Li Na, and Agnieszka Radwanska.
WTA 1000 Events – Quarter-Final Conversion Rate (Since 2009, Min. 2 Appearances):

🔹 Serena Williams – 61.2% (30/49)
🔹 Maria Sharapova, Li Na, Agnieszka Radwanska – Below 60%
Swiatek has already claimed six WTA 1000 titles, with the Italian Open being her most successful event, where she has triumphed three times. The only WTA 1000 tournament she has yet to compete in is the Wuhan Open, which she missed last year due to a one-month suspension.
Swiatek Matches Monica Seles’ Indian Wells Dominance
Swiatek’s path to the quarter-finals has been nothing short of dominant. She has defeated Caroline Garcia, Dayana Yastremska, and Karolina Muchova, dropping only six games combined—a feat that matches Monica Seles’ 2002 Indian Wells run.
📊 Fewest Games Lost En Route to Indian Wells QFs (Since 2002):

✅ Monica Seles (2002) – 6
Seles ultimately fell in the semi-finals that year, a fate Swiatek will be keen to avoid as she prepares for a tough quarter-final clash against Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng.
